My talented & highly skilled mother sewed draperies, slipcovers, and wonderful clothes & doll clothes for me when I was a little girl. With her scraps & guidance, I made little stuffed animals, pocketbooks, and Barbie clothes. I couldn't wait to learn to sew on the machine! By the time I was in Junior High, I could already make a skirt and I loved Home Economics!! I was making my own clothes in High School, and in college, I made myself a tuxedo to wear on my music gigs. I majored in music & played a bunch of instruments. I still play violin when I can't stand being without music for too long.
Once I started working as an accountant, I wore suits to the office and I taught myself to alter blazers (narrow the upper back, add shoulder pads, I even removed sleeves & lowered them to accomodate my sloping shoulders). I used to take in the waist on my pants & skirts (don't need to do THAT anymore!!) And, being tall, I always let out the hems to the longest possible length, using bias tape.
In the last few years, office wear has relaxed and nowadays I implement and support accounting software with IT folks, so I could wear pajamas to work if I felt like it! I love current fashions and I am experiementing with my personal style. I want to start making my own clothes to fit me; my body and my style.
